HAMMOND, Ind. – The Purdue University Northwest baseball team dropped a non-league contest to St. Joseph’s College, 16-2, Wednesday afternoon at Dowling Park.
The Pride (20-15) were led by Hunter Thorn (Portage, Ind./Portage) who notched a team-best two hits on the day with one RBI, while Luke Schmidt (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) recorded an RBI on one hit.
PNW took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, after a single through the left side from Thorn drove in Austin Kordik (West Chicago, Ill./Community) who led off the game with a triple.
The Pumas would tack on two runs in the second and third innings, taking a 4-1 advantage heading in to the fouth.
SJC would score five runs in the fifth followed by a big seven run sixth to give the Pumas a significant lead.
Schmidt would drive in Anthony Quintero (Griffith, Ind./Griffith) with a hit to right field in the bottom of the sixth, but SJC kept the Pride scoreless in the seventh inning to finish off the game.
PNW returns to action Saturday, Apr. 22, when they host Calumet St. Joseph in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference doubleheader starting at noon.
