PNW Baseball Season Ends at GLIAC Tournament With Loss Against SVSU
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The Purdue University Northwest baseball team’s season came to an end as the Pride lost to Saginaw Valley State, 6-1, at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament at TC Baseball LLC Field Friday.
Anthony Agne (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North) started the off the scoring in the game with an RBI double down the right field line which scored Ray Hilbrich (Schererville, Ind./Lake Central) from second base.
Saginaw Valley scored six runs in the fourth inning to go ahead 6-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, PNW had the opprtunity to cut into the deficit as the Pride loaded the bases but left them stranded.
Brandon Haczynski (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) suffered the loss (5-3) on the mound after going four innings, giving up five hits, allowing six runs (five earned), issuing two walks and striking out two.
Justin Walter (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart) came into pitch for the fifth inning then went on to pitch three scoreless innings, allowing three hits, did not give a run, issued a walk and struck out four.
Jade Doyle (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) threw a scoreless eighth inning to keep the score the same. Joe Davi (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) pitched the ninth inning and recorded three straight outs.
PNW finishes the season with a 21-27 record and 16-12 in the GLIAC. The Pride finished in fifth place and made an appearance in the GLIAC Baseball Tournament.
