PNW Men’s Soccer Ends Season With 3-1 Loss to Davenport in GLIAC Tourney
CALEDONIA, Mich. – Despite scoring the game’s first goal off the foot of sophomore Grant Ugarte (Oak Lawn, Ill./Community) in the 22nd minute of play, the Purdue Northwest men’s soccer team had its season come to an end with a 3-1 loss to Davenport University (Mich.) Tuesday in the first round of 2017 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Men’s Soccer Tournament at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia, Mich.  Sophomore Bradley Brack (Crown Point, Ind./Merrillville) finished the game with nine saves for the Pride over his 90 minutes in goal.  PNW carried the No. 5 seed in the six-team conference tournament, while DU held the No. 4 seed.

Purdue Northwest took the early 1-0 advantage on Ugarte’s shot from the box set up off an assist by junior Renato Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil).  However less than two minutes later, the Panthers tied the game on a goal by Cam Cavanaugh.  The game remained knotted at 1-1 heading into the halftime break.  In the 64th minute, Davenport took its first lead on a header goal by Lasse Pico Kjeldsen.  The Panthers added their final goal in the 85th minute off a shot in the box by Brogan Shrimpton to complete the game’s scoring.  Senior Djordje Cancarevic (Sabec, Serbia/Chippewa) led the Black & Gold with three total shots, including one on goal.  Ugarte finished with two shots for the Pride.

Purdue Northwest (4-9-3 overall/3-7-2 GLIAC) has completed its 2017 season.  The Pride were the first PNW team to earn a spot in a GLIAC postseason tournament since the institution entered the conference at the start of the 2017-18 school year.
