Men’s Soccer Suffers 5-2 Loss at Parkside
KENOSHA, Wis. — Despite a pair of goals from Isaiah Nieves (Lyons Township, Ill./Lyons Township), the Purdue Northwest (3-5-1, 1-4 GLIAC) men’s soccer team was defeated 5-2 in a road GLIAC contest Friday against the Parkside Rangers (6-2-1, 4-0-1 GLIAC) at Wood Road Soccer Field.
Nieves got the Pride on the board in the 69th minute off the assist from Matt Bahena (Alsip, Ill./Eisenhower). That combination would strike again in the 72nd minute as Bahena put up a set piece from ’12 that Nieves buried into the net. Nieves came into today’s match as the conference leader in shots as he continues an outstanding sophomore campaign.
Despite leading the Rangers in shots and corners during the first 45 minutes, the Pride trailed 2-0 going into the second half after goals from Jack Krenzien and Evan Garcia.
The second half began quiet before an offensive explosion began in the 66th minute. The two squads would combine for five goals over an 11-minute stretch, punctuated by a 77th minute goal from GLIAC goal leader Leki Prpa.
Raul Garrido Garcia (Madrid, Spain/Menesiano)Â was once again the man in goal for the Pride and played all 90 minutes, making two saves on the afternoon.
Next up, Purdue Northwest will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. for a matchup with the Davenport Panthers (2-6-1, 1-3 GLIAC) Wednesday, October 3rd at 4 p.m. (CST).
