PNW Women’s Basketball Drops Game to Wayne State Saturday
DETROIT, Mich. — The Purdue University Northwest women’s basketball team dropped a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against host Wayne State, 93-68, at Matthaei Center, Saturday.
Junior Shae Rhonehouse (Fremont, Ind./Fremont) led the way for the Pride as she scored 18 points. Sophomore Danielle Nennig (Wrightstown, Wis./Wrightstown) had 16 points. Sophomore Lanie Allen (East Noble, Ind./East Noble) added 10 points for the Pride to round out the leaders in the setback.
PNW cut it 8-9 early in the first quarter after freshman Brittany Barnard (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo) hit a three-point jumper. Wayne State had the answer as the Warriors led 30-15 after the first quarter.
PNW fought back and scored the first four points of the second period to make it an 11 point game capped off by a layup by sophomore Tayler Vauters (Rockville, Ind./Riverton Parke). The Pride was even with the Warriors in the second quarter 19-19 as Wayne State led 49-34 at the half.
Rhonehouse nailed a three-pointer to make 51-41 Wayne State at the 6:24 mark in the third quarter but that was the closest the Pride got the rest of the game as the Warriors expanded their lead to 68-46 towards the end of the third quarter.
Nennig and Allen hit back-to-back layups to cut it back to a 20 point deficit at the 7:21 left in the game.
PNW returns to action Thursday, February 21 as the Pride host Ferris State at the Fitness and Recreation Center starting at 5 p.m. CT.
