Robbins Sets Career Shutouts Record in Sweep of Grace
Â
WINONA LAKE, Ind. – Senior Hannah Robbins pitched a five-hit shutout in the nightcap of Tuesday’s sweep of Grace, breaking the TU record for most shutouts in a career and helping the Trojans to a 4-0 win after a 9-4 victory in game one of the doubleheader.
Grace held a 2-0 lead after three innings in the opener before Taylor took the lead with three runs in the top of the fourth.
The Lancers quickly responded with two more runs in the home-half of the fourth and another in the fifth, but TU secured the victory in game one with a six-run outburst in the sixth frame, helped by four GC errors in the stanza.
Courtney Moriarty and Taylor Wilson paced the offense with two hits apiece and Moriarty came around to score twice for the Trojans.
Game two saw Taylor score a run in each of the first, third, sixth and seventh innings to provide ample scoring for Robbins’ record-setting, 10th-career shutout.
Hannah Castor collected three hits, Alex Lovelace scored twice and Lauren Ehle blasted a solo homer in the sixth for the Purple and Gold.
The Trojans (21-10, 13-3 CL), who received votes in Tuesday’s NAIA Top-25 Poll for the first time this season, will look to extend its program-record, 13-game winning streak in a doubleheader at Bethel (1-24, 1-15 CL) on Thursday at 3:00 pm.
