RV Taylor Routs Trinity Christian with 60 Second-Half Points

UPLAND, Ind. – After scoring 109 points in an upset of No. 13 Olivet Nazarene on Saturday, the Taylor women’s basketball team scored a 95-70 win over Trinity Christian on Tuesday night inside Odle Arena, marking the first time in program history the Trojans scored 95 points in back-to-back outings.
TU struggled in the first half offensively, going 14-of-39 (35.9 percent) from the floor and a dismal four-of-24 (16.7 percent) from three-point land to trail the visiting Trolls by as many as 11 points in the first 20 minutes. Trinity Christian held a 16-6 advantage on points off turnovers and a 14-2 margin on fastbreak points over the Trojans and led by four, 39-35, at the intermission.
The Trolls (5-9) scored the first bucket of the second half, but the remainder of the contest belonged to Taylor, as the Purple and Gold outscored TCC, 60-29 over the final 19 minutes.
TU scored 12-straight points to answer the opening deuce by Trinity Christian and turn a six-point hole into a six-point advantage. The lead stayed under double-digits until late in the third period, when the Trojans ended the stanza with an 8-2 spurt to take a 60-58 lead into the final quarter.
Taylor put the game away for good in the first five minutes of the fourth period, rattling off a 16-0 run to take an 86-58 lead with 5:02 to go. The Trojans took its largest lead of 30 points, 92-62, on Lauren James’ triple at the 2:24 mark, before finishing off the 25-point win.
Kendall Bradbury tallied 27 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals and Cassidy Wyse produced 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals to lead the way, while Abby Buchs and Becca Buchs each netted 15 points to round out the four Trojans in double-figures.
Josie Cobb dished out six assists to match her career-high for a second game in-a-row, while pulling down seven boards and adding six points, and Jamie Netzley swiped a career-high four steals in 13 minutes off the bench.
RV Taylor (9-5) will take nine days off before traveling to Phoenix, Arizona, to take on Arizona Christian (9-2) at 7:00 pm on Friday, December 29, and No. 9 Dakota Wesleyan (11-2) at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 30. The Trojans will begin 2018 with a trip to Huntington on Wednesday, January 3, with tip-off set for 7:00 pm.
