RV Taylor Sweeps Saint Francis in CL Clash
UPLAND, Ind. – The Trojans put an end to a three-game losing streak emphatically on Wednesday night, sweeping Saint Francis (5-10, 1-4 CL) by scores of 25-22, 25-22, and 25-18 in an all-around impressive performance.
The defense was especially spectacular for Taylor, tallying 35 digs and seven blocks to hold the Cougars to a lowly .084 hitting percentage.
McKaylah Flagle tallied 16 digs in the back row and was a force from the service line with two aces. Jen Springer also notched two service aces to help TU total eight in the match.
Sarah Scott led the offense with 13 kills on 31 swings while adding two blocks to her ledger. Grace Ieremia had one of her most efficient matches of the season, with six kills on nine swings in the middle.
Spreading the ball around beautifully was Lindsay Springer, who dialed up an average of 10.67 assists per set in the match while notching five digs, one kill, and one service ace.
RV Taylor (10-7, 1-4 CL) was locked in a tight set to open the match, with neither team gaining much separation, which led to a knotted score at 22. A kill from Jaylynn Dunsmore and two attacking errors from Saint Francis gave the set and momentum to the Trojans, which they ran with the rest of the way.
The Trojans had a one-point lead in the second match before going on a 10-2 run that effectively ended the set with the score at 19-10. The third set had a similar story, with TU grabbing an 18-8 lead, which held up for a match victory one a block from Chelsea Hurt and Reagan Salzbrenner.
The next match for Taylor is on Friday, September 22, on the road against Huntington (10-6, 1-4 CL), with the match set to begin at 7:00 pm.
