RV Trojans Bounce Back, Rout Bethel in Away Matchup

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Purple and Gold returned to the win column on Saturday, defeating the Bethel Pilots (4-16, 0-13 CL) by an 89-63 final score. RV Taylor (17-5, 10-4 CL) dominated all aspects of the game for its 11th 20-point victory of the season.

Lauren James offered a standout effort in the afternoon contest, pouring in 23 points on the day. The junior guard sparked the TU attack in the opening quarter, helping the team to an 18-2 run. James sank back-to-back shots from long range to give Taylor the momentum for the big swing.

The strong first quarter set the Trojans up for a double-digit lead throughout a majority of the matchup.

The TU defense created more separation in the fourth stanza, giving up just two points and zero made field goals through the first five minutes of the quarter. Taylor continued to build its advantage over Bethel through the final buzzer for the 89-63 triumph.

Taylor Westgate drew her first career start on Saturday. The freshman took advantage of her opportunity, posting 13 points and 11 rebounds for the first double-double of her career. The Marion, Indiana native was efficient in the post, collecting six field goals, while converting at a 75.0 percent clip.

The TU squad was tenacious on the boards, grabbing 15 more rebounds than the hosting Pilots. Westgate and Madisyn Fischer each nabbed three offensive boards to help Taylor collect 17 second chance points.

16 BU turnovers hurt the host team, as TU notched 18 points off of Bethel giveaways, while compiling nine total steals.

James was lethal from three-point land, going five-for-eight from beyond the arc in her fifth 20-point outing this season. The Seymour, Indiana native also dished out a team-high four assists to go along with six rebounds and two steals.

RV Taylor is scheduled to return home for its next matchup, taking on Spring Arbor (4-6) on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
