RV Trojans Drop Four-Set Match Against Cougars
UPLAND, Ind. – The Trojans dropped their second Crossroads League match of the season to Spring Arbor (7-6, 1-1 CL) in four sets.
TU came out blazing, tallying 17 kills in the first set on 32 swings for an outstanding .438 attacking percentage. A tight set broke open when Jaylynn Dunsmore delivered three kills during a 6-0 TU run to take a 14-9 advantage. The Trojans cruised to a 25-18 victory, as the Trojan attack looked unstoppable.
A back-and-forth second set turned when Spring Arbor scored five of six points to take a 19-15 lead. TU could get no closer than two before Spring Arbor secured a 25-20 set victory.
The Cougars raced away with the third set to put the Trojans on their heels.
The Trojans came out strong in the fourth set, grabbing a quick 5-2 lead before the Cougars took control. Spring Arbor grabbed a 12-7 lead before a late TU rally made things interesting. Trailing 18-12, TU slowly worked its way back into the match.
Sarah Scott delivered four kills during a 7-2 run, which gave Taylor a 24-23 and the momentum it had lacked for much of the match. Spring Arbor did not blink and grabbed the final three points to close the match.
Lindsay Springer continued to deliver with 50 assists and three kills on five attempts. The sophomore transfer also contributed nine digs and two blocks as she continues her terrific debut season for TU.
RV Taylor (9-5, 0-2 CL) will look to bounce back against Grace (11-2, 2-0 CL) on Friday, September 15, on the road, with the match set to begin at 7:00 pm.
