LAKELAND, Fla.—Southeastern University Men’s Golf Coach Steve Phelps has signed Matthew Soucinek to a letter of intent to join the team this year.
“We are so proud to have Matthew join our golf program,” said Phelps. “He is bringing high quality tournament experience to our squad, and with his help, I feel we can make a run at some championships.”
Soucinek is an accomplished junior golfer on the Hurricane Junior Golf Tour, and is coming off of Player of the Year honors for the tour. The Lake City, Fla. native won eight tournaments on the tour last year in 14 appearances.
“I love the coaches at Southeastern and love the group of guys that we have,” said Soucinek. “I just felt like it was the best place for me to come and do what I can do.”
Soucinek’s older brother Jacob is a junior on the team this season.
“It will be fun,” said Soucinek of being teammates with Jacob. “I didn’t play high school golf, so I haven’t been with him on a team before and we’ll push each other to do our best.”
The Fire open the 2019 fall season at the Thomas University Invitational at Kinderlou on September 23 and 24.
