COLUMBIA, S.C.—The three-game road trip to open the 2019 Southeastern University men’s soccer team ended with a 2-0-1 record as the Fire closed the trip with a 1-1 draw against Grace College Wednesday night.
Senior Jake Van Der Luit got the Fire on the board in the third minute of play, receiving a ball one-on-one with the keeper in the box from Craig Barker to give the Fire a 1-0 lead.
Just over eight minutes later, Grace capitalized on a free kick from 40 yards out, serving the ball to the near post, where it was sent into the back of the net.
The Fire had the majority of the opportunities, taking 10 shots with seven on frame, and generating eight corner kicks to Grace’s five.
The Lancers had an opportunity at the end of the second 10-minute overtime session, taking a ball down the center of the pitch, but the ball was shot into the back of the net after time expired.
Southeastern returns home to face Montreat Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. for its season opener.
