SEU Women’s Soccer Scores Shutout of Columbia International for Fourth-Straight Win

COLUMBIA, S.C.– Southeastern earned a 5-0 victory over Columbia International, winning their fourth game of the season and the Fire are on a four-game winning streak.

The Fire controlled possession throughout the game, registering 24 total shots during the game with eight shots in the first half and 16 shots in the second half of the game. The Rams did not register a single shot on goal in the 90-minute game, giving sophomore Holly Eddins a clean sheet.

Southeastern had several opportunities throughout the first half, however the Rams played aggressively defensive keeping the Fire from earning any points. With 9:30 left in the first half, Uchenna Kanu scored the first goal for the Fire with the assist from Eckerd transfer and senior, Siobhan Longmore.

Columbia International kept the Fire quiet for the first 25 minutes of the second half. Until the 71st minute, Southeastern added four points to the scoreboard, taking a five goal advantage over CIU.

The Fire scored on a corner from sophomore Gabriela Labrador that was finished by senior, Bania Duran giving the Fire a 2-0 lead over the Rams.

Senior, Kanu scored goals for the Fire in the 77th, 79th, and 81st minute of the game. Two of the three goals Kanu scored were assisted by graduate student, Yulie Lopez. Labrador earned two assists on the night. The Nigerian-native, Kanu has scored 10 goals thus far in the season.

Southeastern return to action on September 14t at home to play Brewton-Parker College. Game is set to start at 7:30 p.m.
