Owen atop 141-pound ranking
KANSAS CITY, Mo.—Expectations will be high for the Southeastern University wrestling team following the release of the 2019-20 preseason coaches’ poll.
The Fire checked in at ninth, and had six wrestlers ranked in the top 20 in their respective weight classes.
This includes two-time All-American and three-time national qualifier Ethan Owen, who starts the season ranked first at 141 pounds. Owen placed third at nationals last season, finishing with an 18-4 record.
At 125, the Fire have a pair of wrestlers ranked in returning national qualifier Jaaziel Santana at seventh, and Isaac Crowell at 17th.
Coming off of a redshirt season, Olson Delisca, who finished fourth at 125 in 2017 is ranked seventh at 133.
The Fire have another 2017 All-American ranked at 157 pounds in two-time national qualifier Dylan Chatterton, who opens the season fourth.
Junior Kyle Kirkham, a returning national qualifier, checks in at ninth in the 165-pound rankings.
This is the highest preseason ranking in program history, and the third time the Fire have been ranked in the Top 10.
The season opens tomorrow at the Patriot Open in Williamsburg, Ky.
