Argos native Andy Stone has been named the new men’s soccer coach at Ancilla College. Stone replaces Victor Newburg who recently accepted an assistant coaching position at Trine University. Stone was an assistant on Newburg’s staff this past season at Ancilla.
“I am very excited that to announce that Andy Stone will be coaching the men’s soccer team at Ancilla College,” said Ancilla Athletic Director, Brian Pearison. “He has a wealth of experience with coaching soccer. Andy’s being a part of the men’s soccer team last year will help the current players make a smooth transition into next season.”
Stone has over 15 years of coaching experience and had coached youth soccer up to the 18/19 premiere leagues, before assisting at Ancilla. He graduated from the Meulensteen Academy where he learned a soccer playing philosophy he likes to incorporate within his teams. He holds a United States Soccer Federation D National License and is a National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association certified goalkeeping trainer.
“I am very grateful for this opportunity to coach at Ancilla College,” Stone said. “Ancilla has so many great things for their students, it is hard not to be successful when you graduate.”
Ancilla’s soccer teams have been very competitive in the recent past including a four-year record of 58-12-1. They finished third nationally in 2016 with an 18-2 mark. They were 11-3-1 last season.
“Ancilla’s been very competitive over the past few years, and I can’t wait to take us to the next level,” Stone added. “I am extremely excited to start this journey with this outstanding group of young men.”
Stone, who is the founder of the Stone Soccer Academy, met with the team on Tuesday.
He is married to Amee and has three children; Samantha, Jonathan and Jacob.
