Taylor Football Lands Eight All-MSFA Honors

UPLAND, Ind. – The Mid-States Football Association recently announced its 2020-2021 All-MSFA Mideast League honors, with Taylor’s Titus Martin, Drew LeFever, Preston Scott, Josh Saltzgaber, TJ Swore, Sam Bartu, Jacob Hockett and Colin Schwartz each garnering All-MSFA attention.

Martin highlighted that list as TU’s lone First-Team All-MSFA Mideast League standout. The left guard helped the Trojan offensive line clear the way for over 100 yards rushing in four of the squad’s five games this spring. In those outings, Martin helped TU average 124.6 rushing yards per game and rank No. 12 in the NAIA with only eight sacks allowed.

LeFever was tabbed for Second-Team All-MSFA accolades after averaging 4.7 yards per carry out of the Trojan backfield. The running back finished with 53.3 rushing yards per game and highlighted his season with 93 rushing yards on 11 touches in TU’s 45-0 win over Madonna.

Scott was also picked for Second-Team All-MSFA recognition after serving as a key blocker in Taylor’s ground game. The tight end aided the offensive line in opening lanes for TU’s ball carriers and also averaged 11.8 yards per reception.

Saltzgaber was selected as a Second-Team All-MSFA standout after ranking 46th in the NAIA with 8.6 tackles per game. The linebacker ended with 43 stops in five contests, including 23 solo tackles and 1.5 hits for lost yardage.

Swore was named Second-Team All-MSFA for a second-straight year, this time doing so from his safety position. Swore closed his final year with the Trojans with 28 tackles in five games and added one interception and 2.5 stops for negative yardage.

Bartu played to Honorable Mention All-MSFA honors as a defensive end with 19 tackles and 3.5 hits for lost yardage in five games for the Purple and Gold.

Hockett earned Honorable Mention All-MSFA attention after leading TU with 47 tackles in five games and ranking 24th in the NAIA with 9.4 stops per game from his middle linebacker position.

Schwartz rounded out TU’s list of award recipients with an Honorable Mention All-MSFA nod. The defensive tackle posted nine tackles with two hits for a loss.

Martin, Scott, Saltzgaber, Bartu and Hockett are all set to return for the Trojans for the 2021 fall campaign, highlighting a group that is anticipated to include eight returners on the offensive side of the ball and nine from the defensive unit.
