Taylor Moves to 2-0 in League Play with Fourth-Straight Victory
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor led from start to finish in Tuesday’s clash with Goshen, turning in another stingy defensive effort and holding a double-digit margin over the game’s final nine minutes of a 77-59 win against the Maple Leafs.
Jason Hubbard took control of the action in the opening 20 minutes, netting 15 points and anchoring a TU defense that forced 11 turnovers and limited Goshen (2-7, 0-2 CL) to just one make from beyond the arc.
The 36-25 halftime lead for Taylor was never threatened in the second, with TU holding a spread of at least seven points over the final 20 minutes and pushing it as high as 22.
With the GC defense focusing on slowing his scoring, Hubbard facilitated the offense for his teammates in the final period with six assists. Kaden Fuhrmann and Gavin Yoon picked up the scoring load with 19 points on five-of-seven shooting from deep in the second half.
Hubbard closed the night with 21 points, eight rebounds, six dimes and one steal, while Fuhrmann added 17 points with his sixth game this season with at least four makes from deep and Yoon followed with a season-high 15 points on six-of-nine shooting.
Jackson Lewis and Aaron Hahn also chipped in with eight points each, with Lewis adding six assists and five rebounds. Jeff Clayton closed with six points and six boards.
The story was the play of the Taylor team defense, as the Trojans held Goshen 15 points below its season average and to just 42.6 shooting from the floor. The Leafs shot two-of-11 from three-point range and saw their 17 miscues turn into a 24-4 advantage for Taylor in points off turnovers.
Taylor (4-5, 2-0 CL) will take the weekend off for Thanksgiving, before heading to Mount Vernon Nazarene (7-3, 0-2 CL) for a 7:00 pm tip on Tuesday, November 30.
