Taylor Tops MNVU, 10-0, for 18th-Straight Home Win

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor scored in the first five innings and kept the visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene Cougars off the board, while cruising to a, 10-0, run-rule victory. The game extended TU’s winning streak at Winterholter Field to 18-straight wins.

Clay Riggins (5-0) was in command throughout, holding MVNU (19-14, 8-7 CL) to no runs on two hits, while striking out four and walking none over six innings. Riggins needed only 66 pitches, retired the final 10 batters he faced and saw only one runner advance into scoring position.

Wyatt Whitman provided all the offense Taylor would need with a leadoff homer over the left field fence for his 12th career long ball and Jared Adkins also homered for the 25th time in his four-year career to highlight the offensive outburst for the Trojans.

Taylor finished the game with 10 runs on 14 hits, with Whitman also doubling to account for TU’s third extra-base hit of the contest. Whitman was busy atop the lineup, going two-for-two with one walk, three runs scored and two runs batted in.

Nathan Targgart, Sam Wiese, Brett Lawson and Adkins also had two-hit showings, with Adkins collecting three RBI and swiping one base to go with the homer.

Taylor (27-10, 7-5 CL) will play next at Grace (3-22, 3-8 CL). The two teams are set to play a doubleheader on Thursday at 1:00 pm, before wrapping up the series with a single game on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
