Taylor Volleyball Battles No. 22 Knights in Four-Set Loss

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor played well over the final three sets of Friday’s clash with No. 22 Marian but could not score the upset, falling 25-12, 26-28, 25-16, 25-20 to the Knights inside Odle Arena.

TU managed only six kills in the opening set but was much more competitive over the final three sets, notching a .218 hitting percentage on 44 kills with just 18 miscues after the slow first set.

The Trojans also saw Julia Pomerenke and Nikki Parrett set new career-highs, with Pomerenke spiking a personal-best and match-leading 16 kills in 35 swings and Parrett leading all Trojans with a career-high 19 digs from the libero position.

Grace Isaacs and Amanda Adams joined Pomerenke in double figures with 11 and 10 kills, with Isaacs hitting .296 in the match over 27 swings. Karli Ware also joined the attack with seven kills on a team-best .375 clip, while Erin Peugh notched two service aces.

The setter tandem of Abby DeSimpelare and Kacy Bragg continued to post big numbers for the Purple and Gold, with DeSimpelare going for 20 assists and 13 digs and Bragg finishing at 26 assists and nine digs.

Despite the solid numbers, Marian (13-1, 4-1 CL) proved too strong for the Trojans, as the guests hit .335 in the match and collected at least 13 kills in each of the four sets, hitting over .385 in their three wins and finishing the contest with 10 blocks.

Taylor (12-10, 3-3 CL) will get another crack at a Top-25 foe on Saturday, when it hosts No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan (16-0, 5-0 CL) for a 5:00 pm start inside Odle Arena.
