Trojans Get Back on Track with Sweep of RV Cougars
UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor ended its only losing streak of the season, sweeping past a visiting RV Mount Vernon Nazarene squad to snap a brief two-match slide while improving to 11-1 inside Odle Arena this season.
The win was TU’s eighth-straight on its home court, completed a season sweep of MVNU (26-7, 11-6 CL) and gave No. 25 Taylor a fourth victory over a foe ranked or receiving votes in the national poll.
The Trojans had little trouble with their guests on Wednesday, picking up 16 more kills and 18 more digs than MVNU while maintaining a lead throughout much of the 25-21, 25-18, 25-16 outcome.
Stephaney Fifield put on a defensive show, piling up 26 digs for her 19th match with at least 20 digs this season. Fifield was joined in double figures by Nikki Parrett, who tallied 14 digs, as the duo accounted for 40-of-65 digs for the Purple and Gold.
On the offensive side, Amanda Adams and Ryan Czerniak took care of business with a combined 28 kills. The pair combined to hit .382, with Adams ending with 15 kills and Czerniak adding 13.
Kacy Bragg and Grace Isaacs also played well, with Bragg posting 41 assists and Isaacs registering nine terminations and three blocks.
No. 25 Taylor (25-6, 13-4 CL) will close its regular season on Saturday at 5:00 pm when it hosts Saint Francis (6-22, 4-13 CL). TU will honor its seniors prior to the start of the contest inside Odle Arena.
