Taylor Volleyball Stays Unbeaten in League Play with Win at SAU

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – Taylor moved to 3-0 in the Crossroads League with a 25-22,  21-25, 26-24, 25-21 win at Spring Arbor on Friday evening in the first of a weekend back-to-back for the Trojans at SAU and Saint Francis.

The four-set win moved TU to 12-7 overall and 3-0 in league play, matching its 3-0 mark in 2015 for its best start to a league schedule since beginning the 2012 slate with a 5-0 mark against Crossroads League foes.

The tandem of Amanda Adams and Julia Pomerenke led the way against SAU (4-4, 0-3 CL), teaming for 26-of-54 kills for TU, while also posting three and four blocks each.

Ryan Czerniak added nine kills of her own, with Adams logging three aces and Nikki Parrett and Kacy Bragg each notching two. Adams and Bragg each posted double-doubles by reaching double figures in digs, with Erin Peugh leading the squad with 13.

The first set tilted toward the hosts in the early going, with Spring Arbor jumping to leads of 7-1 and 16-11 before Taylor came off the mat with a 14-6 spurt to take the set 25-22. Adams sparked a key 5-0 stretch in that run with a kill and two aces.

SAU answered with a 25-21 win in the second set and again built early cushions of 7-2 and 10-5 in the third, only to see Taylor rally back with eight of the next nine points behind three kills from Pomerenke for a 13-11 edge. The teams played even from there, with Taylor’s lead hovering at one or two points, until Czerniak finished the 26-24 set with a kill.

The fourth opened 9-3 in TU’s favor and the Trojans never relinquished their advantage en route to the 25-21 victory to secure the match.

With the win, Taylor joined No. 4 Indiana Wesleyan and RV Saint Francis as the three remaining unbeaten teams in league play at 3-0. TU will square off with USF (11-4, 3-0 CL) on Saturday afternoon in Fort Wayne at 4:00 pm.
