Taylor Grabs Home Victory Over Concordia

UPLAND, Ind. – For the fourth time this season, the Trojans notched four goals, as they defeated the Concordia Cardinals by a 4-2 margin.

The first half was owned by TU (4-1), as the host squad maintained constant pressure. Peppering the goal with shots throughout the first 45 minutes, the first netter finally made it through from the foot of Morgan Orme for her first goal of 2019.

Orme’s score led to a 1-0 Taylor lead at the intermission. The second half of action was not as quiet, producing five total goals.

The Cardinals (3-2) found the back of the net in the 67th minute, tying the match. TU was quick to respond, retaking the lead within the next 40 seconds. Kate Kortenhoeven set up the goal with a great corner kick that found the head of Riley Massey who posted her third goal of 2019.

After an assist, Kortenhoeven found success for herself, knocking another corner kick pass the goalie for a 3-1 Taylor advantage.

Once again, Concordia led an offensive attack in an attempt to come back, completing a goal that snuck under the crossbar from 20 yards out.

Ensuring a victory, Erin Teevans drew a foul in the box in the 88th minute, leading to a penalty kick from Hannah Davis that was placed in the perfect spot for a score.

Ball control favored the Trojans throughout the Saturday match, as the team took 24 shots and 10 corner kicks compared to Concordia’s eight shots and zero corners.

Taylor will hit the road for its next contest, facing Olivet Nazarene (3-1) on Wednesday at 5:00 pm.
