Taylor’s Two Goals Come Up Short Against Governors State
UPLAND, Ind. – Paul McBride and Joaquin Hansen found the back of the net on Monday but the TU squad could not keep up with Governors State, falling 4-2.
A pair of quick scores from the visiting Jaguars (2-0) created a deficit for the Trojans (2-2-1) just five minutes into the contest. Governors State gained an advantage utilizing speedy forwards who sprinted by the defense for good looks at the net.
In the following minutes of the first half, TU found its footing with a great pass from Peter Linn to Josiah Wieland. Making a run towards the goal, Wieland corralled the ball and forced a foul from the Jaguar defense, creating a penalty kick opportunity. Hansen cut the deficit in half with a beautiful penalty kick that slid in past the goal just inside the post. The score was Hansen’s first career goal.
Neither team posted too many shots on the night but both teams took advantage of its opportunities as GSU took 12 shots, while Taylor logged seven.
Two additional Jaguar goals gave the visitors a comfortable lead, before McBride’s highlight of the night. The sophomore stepped into a shot from 20 yards out, crushing in his fourth goal of the year from long distance.
TU will face No. 4 Madonna (3-0) in its next match on Friday at 6:00 pm.
