TCC’s Uhl Headlines W. Soccer Honor Roll For Second Year In A Row

CHICAGO — For the second year in a row, Trinity Christian College’s Brianna Uhl (Upland, Calif.) has been named the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Soccer Player of the Year, it was announced by the league office Monday morning as part of the overall release of the 2021 women’s soccer postseason award winners. In all, 32 awards were presented.

Uhl led the conference in goals scored (26), points (62) and game-winning goals (seven), while gaining runner-up distinction in assists with ten over her 21 matches. Nationally, the rankings were just as impressive for the senior forward. At that level, she rated fourth-best in goals and fifth in both points and game-winning goals.

Uhl also headlined the list of 28 all-conference selections, split evenly between two teams. She along with four other individuals were repeat first-team selections from one year ago. Included in that group was Trinity Christian senior defender Kaleigh VanElst (Grandville, Mich.), who closed out her career by being named to the first team four times and the second team once. Holy Cross College midfielder Olivia Shaw (Valparaiso, Ind.), meanwhile, earned a spot on the first team for the third year in a row, while Uhl, Olivet Nazarene University’s Abbey Cash (Gardner, Ill.) and St. Ambrose University’s Morgan Wahlen (Batavia, Ill.) were the repeat picks.

Making the first team for the second time in three years were Judson University’s Alondra Blanco (Streamwood, Ill.), Cardinal Stritch University’s Danielle Bruckschen (Sheboygan, Wis.) and Roosevelt University’s Gabi Christidis (Rockford, Ill.)

Regular-season champion Judson came away with the most honors on Monday earning seven awards, including league-highs in first-team all-conference selections (four) and total all-CCAC recipients (five).

Trinity Christian was next in line with five award winners, followed by four each from Cardinal Stritch and Holy Cross. Tournament champion St. Ambrose and Roosevelt collected three all-conference spots each, while Olivet Nazarene University and University of St. Francis both had two recipients.

Trinity International University gained one spot on the second team, while also being named the CCAC Champions of Character Team.

Other individual honors went to Judson University’s Kelly Leon (Elgin, Ill.) and Diego Cevallos. Leon was named the CCAC Freshman of the Year with Cevallos earning CCAC Coach of the Year honors.

Leon, a midfielder, totaled nine goals, seven assists, 25 points and one game-winning goal in 18 contests. Her assist total ranked eighth in the league, while placing ninth in total points and tenth in goals.

Cevallos was recognized for leading the Eagles to their first regular-season championship in ten years and producing a current 12-4-2 record heading into the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round.
