Teri Moren Named Court Coach For 2021 USA Women’s U19 World Cup Team Trials

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Indiana women’s basketball head coach Teri Moren has been named a court coach for the upcoming USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Cup Team Trials.

This will be Moren’s first time participating with USA Basketball and selections were made by USA Basketball Women’s Junior National Team Committee. She will take place in the trials held from May 14-16 at Metro State University in Denver.

Moren, along with Memphis head coach Katrina Merriweather, will serve as court coaches to assist the USA U19 coaching staff, including head coach Cori Close (UCLA) and assistant coaches Aaron Johnston (South Dakota State) and Joni Taylor (University of Georgia), with on-court drills and scrimmages during trials. Featuring U19 teams from 16 nations, the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup is scheduled to be held Aug. 7-15 in Debrecen, Hungary. In addition to the USA and host Hungary, teams that will take part in this summer’s U19 World Cup include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Italy, Japan, Mali, Russia, South Korea and Spain.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve as a court coach for USA Basketball’s U19 tryouts,” said Moren. “It is with great pride and gratitude to experience this process alongside fantastic coaches and while working with some of the best young athletes in our game today.”

She is entering her eighth season as the head coach of the Hoosiers and her 18th season as a collegiate head coach. She holds a 148-79 record during her time in Bloomington and is the program’s second all-time winningest coach. During her tenure, the Seymour, Ind. native has guided IU to two NCAA Tournament appearances and a 2018 WNIT Championship.

Indiana is coming off one of its most successful campaigns in school history where it advanced to the NCAA Tournament Elite Eight in 2020-21. They finished 21-6 overall – its sixth-consecutive 20-win season- and set a school record with 16 Big Ten wins. Four players earned All-Big Ten honors including the nation’s leader in triple doubles junior guard Grace Berger and sophomore forward Mackenzie Holmes. The duo also earned a combined three All-American honors while IU finished the season ranked No. 8 in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches Poll and No. 9 in the Associated Press Top 25.
