HOT OFF THE PRESS

Defending Class 6A state champion Carmel saw its playoff run come to an end with a 27-21 loss to Indianapolis Ben Davis.

Westfield’s Jake Gilbert and Indianapolis Cathedral’s Bill Peebles both celebrated their 100th career victories. The Shamrocks downed Homestead, 42-9, while the Irish cruised past Whiteland, 39-6.

Zionsville’s A.J. Vinatieri converted what proved to be the game-winning 22-yard field goal with two seconds left in the Eagles’ 30-21 upset of No. 2 (Class 5A) Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger.

Warren Central’s 38-0 loss to top-ranked (Class 6A) Center Grove marked the first time the Warriors were shutout in the post-season since the current format was introduced in 1985.

Here is the last time these teams were unbeaten: Center Grove (12-0-2015), Covenant Christian (13-0-first time) Southridge (13-0-first time), South Adams (12-0-2019). Danville (10-0-2017), Mishawaka Marian (11-0-1999), West Washington (11-0-2016), Valparaiso (8-0-2019).
