SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A strong all-around effort led the No. 24 Indiana University South Bend women’s basketball team to a convincing 79-44 victory over Saint Mary’s College in its third straight home contest Wednesday night, Dec. 11 at the Student Activities Center. Five players scored in double figures to move the Titans to 13-1 overall while SMC dipped to 4-6 overall.

Senior guard Kyleigh Kubik led IU South Bend’s double-digit scoring efforts with a team-high 14 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including a perfect 4-of-4 from the three, to go along with two steals and two assists. Sophomore Rachael Robards added 12 points and a team-best four steals while freshman Katie Gard contributed 11. Meanwhile, senior Taylor Wesley and junior Courtney Haynes chipped in 10 points apiece.
IUSB wasted little time getting out in front as Maddie Gard converted on a jumper to put the Titans up two, 10-7, with 5:12 to play. The points sparked a 25-0 IUSB run that spanned nearly 10 minutes and sent the IU South Bend into the half with a 42-21 advantage.
The Titans did not waver in the second half, going up by as many as 42. Freshmen Taylor Klenner and Maddie Gard made the most of their time on the floor. Maddie Gard made her first career start, scoring seven points to go along with four steals and two assists while Klenner added a career-best six points of 2-of-5 three pointers.
For the game, Indiana University South Bend went 29-for-67 from the floor (43.3 percent) and 9-of-23 from distance (39.1 percent). IUSB was strong at the free throw line, converting 12-of-15 freebies for a 80 percent clip. On the flip side, the Titan defense held the Belles to 13-of-44 from the floor and just 3-of-11 from beyond the three-point line.
IU South Bend held a commanding 46-24 advantage on the glass and dished out 18 assists to SMC’s four. The Titans forced 25 turnovers and turned the miscues into 34 points, while the IUSB’s bench outscored Saint Mary’s 34-23.
With its three-game homestand in the rearview mirror, Indiana University South Bend travels to Bethel University on Friday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m. before getting back to conference play at Calumet College of St. Joseph on Saturday, Dec. 21. Tip in Whiting, Ind. is slated for 2 p.m. (EST).
