SOUTH BEND, Ind. – No. 24 Indiana University South Bend women’s basketball extended its winning streak to nine after using a late run to fend off crosstown rival Holy Cross in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, Jan. 4, inside the Student Activities Center. Junior Courtney Raymer stepped up, collecting a career-high 19 points to fuel the Titans to a 71-62 victory.

IU South Bend led 53-51 lead into the final minutes of play, but a pair of field goals from freshman guard Katie Gard quickly pushed the score at 56-51. The back-and-forth affair continued as the two teams played to a 61-60, in favor of the Titans, before freshman counterpart and sister Maddie Gard added a layup in the final 2:55 to give IUSB a 63-60 edge.
Maddie Gard’s bucket proved to be just the spark the Titans needed as IUSB closed out the game at the free throw line to come away with another crucial conference victory. With the win, Indiana University South Bend improved to 16-1 overall and 8-1 in CCAC play.
Raymer turned in a career-high 19 points to go along with seven rebounds and one steal. Other double-digit scorers for the Titans included senior Kyleigh Kubik with 13 while Katie Gard collected 12 on the afternoon. Both Maddie Gard and sophomore Rachael Robards registered rejections while freshman Maddy Schumacher grabbed a team-high two steals.
For the game, IUSB went 22-for-62 from the floor (33.5 percent) and 5-of-16 from distance (31.3 percent). Indiana University South Bend was strong at the free throw line, converting 22-of-23 freebies for a 95.7 percent clip. On the flip side, the Titan defense held the Saints to 21-of-64 from the floor and 5-of-28 from beyond the three-point line.
IUSB held the minimal 44-41 advantage on the glass while both teams dished out 10 total assists. The Titans forced 15 turnovers the converted into 15 points.
IU South Bend hits the road for its first of back-to-back games in unfamiliar territory on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at Governors State. First tip in University Park, Ill. is slated for 6 p.m. (EST).
