UNIVERSITY PARK, Ill. – The Indiana University South Bend volleyball team swept Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opponent Governors State (25-18, 25-18, 25-13) on Thursday evening to win its fourth straight match. With the victory, the Titans improve to 5-5 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
After trailing early in the first set, the Titans mounted a comeback to defeat the Jaguars 25-18. IUSB continued its hot streak, taking sets two and three and picking up its third sweep in the last four matches. IU South Bend has also won 12 of its last 14 sets against its opponent.
The Titans were led by junior transfer Hannah Marchand with a game-high 16 kills off of 30 attempts which was good for an impressive .467 attacking percentage. Sophomore McKenzie Powell led all players on the night after dishing out 33 assists to go along with 11 digs for a double-double. Senior Samantha Hockstra tied senior counterpart Robbie Berg with a game-high 15 digs on the defensive end.
As a team, the Titans attacked at a .333 clip while holding their opponent to .144. The highest attacking percentage for IUSB came in the third and final set with a .545 percent off 15 kills on 22 attempts and just three errors. The Crimson & Cream led in almost every other category on the night with 48 digs, 43 kills, 37 assists and served nine aces.
The Titans are back in action at home on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m., welcoming Indiana Northwest inside the Student Activities Center for their fourth conference match.
