Top-Seeded Foresters Bump BC into Elimination Bracket

The Bethel baseball team fell into the elimination bracket of the Crossroads League Postseason Tournament with an 11-1 loss to the top-seeded Foresters of Huntington University. Huntington, who was receiving votes in the latest NAIA poll, advances to play Goshen while BC will face Taylor who was bumped into the elimination bracket by Goshen in a 10-inning opening round contest.

The Pilots found themselves behind the eight ball early in the contest when back-to-back three and four-run frames for the Foresters gave the hosts a 7-0 cushion. The Pilots’ lone score of the game came in the top of the fourth when Heath Brooksher touched home plate after being hit by a pitch and Collin Affolder and Eric Kelver delivered back-to-back singles.

However, there was no comeback in sight. Huntington tallied the final four scores of the game and ran away with the 11-1 win. BC was narrowly outhit in the contest 9-6, but the Pilots committed a pair of errors while the Foresters were flawless on defense.

Bethel’s contest against the Taylor Trojans will begin at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. During the regular season, TU edged BC 2-1 in the three-game series with Bethel’s win coming in an unforgettable 14-inning, 21-20 decision. The winner of the Bethel/Taylor matchup will advance to play the loser from the Huntington/Goshen contest.
