Trinity Christian Volleyball sweeps IUSB

SOUTH BEND, IN – The IU South Bend women’s volleyball team fell to Trinity Christian in 3 close sets (24-26, 24-26, 22-25).

IU South Bend started the first set strong, getting out to an early 8-2 lead. The Titans were playing with a ton of energy and it seemed they were poised to take the first set. They led a majority of the set until Trinity Christian was finally able to take the lead at 19-18. IU South Bend was quickly able to reclaim the lead at 22-19 thanks to a couple of attack errors and a kill by Ashli Drewes(JR/New Buffalo, Michigan). After a kill by Morgan Fleming (JR/South Bend, Indiana) gave the Titans a 24-22 lead, the Trolls responded by winning the next four points to win the first set 26-24.

In the second set neither team was able to claim a big lead. However, it was the Titans who held a 23-20 lead late in the set. IU South Bend took a 24-21 lead on a Sarah Allison (JR/Mishawaka, Indiana) kill to make it triple set point. The Trolls responded once again, winning the next five points to win the set 26-24.

The third set was the first time in the match IU South Bend had to play from behind. Trailing 11-17 the Titans went on a 5-0 run with the help of an attack error, two kills from Ashli Drewes, a kill from Ashley McClintock (SR/Westville, Indiana), and a block by Jadalyn Tindall (SR/Fort Wayne, Indiana) and McClintock. Now only trailing 16-17 the Titans could not get any closer and eventually dropped the set 22-25 and the match 0-3.

Ashley McClintock recorded a team high 16 kills, 2 service aces, and 5 blocks. Janelle Rehlander (SR/LaPorte, Indiana) had a team high 21 digs, and Morgan Powell (FR/New Prarie, Indiana) also reached double digit digs finishing with 13.Jadalyn Tindall finished with a team high 24 assists.

IU South Bend will travel to Whiting, IN to take on Calumet College of St. Joseph on Sept. 19.
