Trojans Drop Series Opener to No. 24 Foresters

UPLAND, Ind. – Taylor opened its critical three-game series against No. 24 Huntington with a lopsided loss under the Winterholter Field lights on Friday evening, falling 13-2 to the visiting Foresters, who moved two games up on TU in the CL standings with the win.

TU struggled in all phases, managing just two runs on four hits, committing three errors in the field that led to eight unearned runs and yielding five extra-base hits among 10 knocks to the HU offense in seven innings.

Huntington plated runs in five-straight innings from the second through the sixth, scoring two in the second and never trailing. Taylor struck for single runs in the third and fourth to cut the deficit to 3-1 and 6-2 but could not mount a serious threat.

Wyatt Whitman provided one of the only highlights of the night for the Trojans, ripping his eighth homer of the year for TU’s only extra-base hit of the contest. Austin Mettica, Josh Lane and Sam Wiese collected singles for Taylor’s other three hits.

Taylor (29-16, 17-5 CL) will look to bounce back on Saturday, when it hosts HU (25-8, 18-3 CL) for two more, with action set to begin at 2:00 pm.
