Taylor Men’s Soccer Record Second Victory With Win Over Goshen
GOSHEN, Ind. –Despite being outshot by a 24-9 margin, the Trojans put forth a victorious, resilient effort, defeating the Goshen Maple Leafs 2-1 for their second victory of the 2020 campaign.
Joaquin Hansen, despite facing a barrage of shots throughout the contest, made eight saves on Goshen’s nine attempts on target. The Maple Leafs recorded 15 shots in the final 45 minutes alone, but Hansen stood tall in Taylor’s net, allowing just the one goal.
Owen Hardy scored his second goal of the season in the first six minutes, sending a free kick from the top of the box past Goshen goalkeeper Matias da Fonseca to give the Trojans a lead they would not relinquish.
The Maple Leafs tied the contest in the 69th minute on a cross from the right side of the pitch, but Quinn Partain recorded the game-winner for the Trojans (2-6-0, 2-5-0 CL) just six minutes later. Webby Phiri threaded a perfect through ball up the left side of the pitch, and Partain capitalized on the opportunity, scoring his first goal of the season in the process. For Phiri, it was the first assist of his Taylor career.
TU’s defense held on down the stretch to secure the victory.
Partain and Paul McBride both finished with three shots, while Hardy and Phiri each added one. The Trojans only put two shots on goal, but both found twine.
With the win, Taylor improved to 6-3-1 against Goshen (0-4-1, 0-4-1 CL) in their last 10 meetings.
Taylor will be back in action on Wednesday, October 14, when they return home to Turner Stadium to take on No. 12 Spring Arbor (3-2-1, 3-2-1 CL). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 pm.
