Trojans Wear Down Huntington for 11th-Straight Win
HUNTINGTON, Ind. – After splitting a pair of hotly contested sets to open play at Huntington on Wednesday, Taylor got on track and rolled to wins in the final two sets to take a four-set triumph for its 11th-straight victory.
TU took the opener, 27-25, before falling 27-29 in the second and appeared headed for another tight finish in the third with a 9-8 edge early into the set. The Trojans completely took over the action from there however, closing the third set on a 16-3 charge and following the 25-11 set-three rout with a 25-15 win in the fourth to secure the match victory.
Taylor outscored Huntington (6-5, 1-1 CL) by a 50-26 count over the final two sets, including a 41-18 clip to end that decisive stretch. TU’s attack picked apart the Foresters in that time, collecting 23 kills with just four errors for a sizzling .380 attack percentage, while the hosts aided the Taylor onslaught with 19 hitting errors in the final two games.
Taylor closed the night with a solid .237 team percentage and kept added pressure on Huntington with eight service aces and 10 total blocks.
Amanda Adams turned in another sparkling all-around effort to pace the Purple and Gold, reaching double figures in kills for a ninth-straight time and posting her fourth double-double of the year with 19 kills, a .320 percentage, 11 digs, one ace and two blocks.
Kacy Bragg added her 10th double-double of the young season with 38 assists, 11 digs, two blocks and one ace and Nikki Parrett offered up four aces. Stephaney Fifield turned in 21 digs and two aces for her ninth match with at least 20 digs in her first 13 contests with the Trojans and Jaylynn Dunsmore finished with a career-high six blocks.
Taylor (12-1, 2-0 CL) will return to action on Friday night inside Odle Arena, when it hosts No. 13 Marian (10-0, 2-0 CL) in a 7:00 pm start.
