TU Cruises to 5-0 Victory Over Saint Francis

UPLAND, Ind. – The Taylor men’s soccer team ended its home schedule on a high note, ripping off a season-high five goals to down Saint Francis, 5-0, on Wednesday night at Turner Stadium.

Zoltan Suranyi, TU’s leader in points scored this season, scored the game’s first goal in the 24th minute, off Andrew Johnson’s second-career assist to give Taylor an early 1-0 lead.

The Trojans inflated the lead to 3-0 in the last five minutes of the first half with two goals in a 43-second window. Jeremiah Rader netted the second TU goal of the night on a penalty kick in the 43rd minute, followed by Gabriel Cavalheiro’s feed to Gonzalo Iglesias for the third Trojan score in the 44th minute.

Taylor kept the 3-0 lead intact through the 80th minute, and Lewis Nisbet tacked on two goals in the 81st and 85th minutes to make the final tally. Cavalheiro recorded his second assist of the evening on the first Nisbet goal, while Rader assisted on the final Trojan score of the contest.

TU held firm control of possession over the 90 minutes, as the Trojans tallied a season-high 28 shots, including a season-high 15 on frame, while holding USF (4-13, 1-7 CL) to 11 total shots. Taylor’s highest single-game shot total on the season was 19 before Wednesday night’s performance.

Drew Sezonov was stellar in the net for the Trojans, stopping five shots to collect his fourth shutout of the season and lower his Crossroads League-leading goals-against average to 0.89.

Taylor (6-6-3, 2-5-1 CL) will finish out its regular season on the road at Huntington (8-4-4, 4-2-2 CL) on Saturday at 2:00 pm. With a win, TU will lock up a spot in the Crossroads League Quarterfinals on Wednesday, November 1.
