TU Finishes the Weekend with a Pair of Victories
Â
Sylvania, Ohio – As the Gray Wolf Invitational comes to a close, the Trojans came out red hot, defeating College of Coastal Georgia and Indiana University – South Bend.
The TU volleyball team recovered from its season-opening loss by taking care of its opponents and only dropping two total sets. The day started with a victory over Coastal Georgia (25-21, 26-24, 23-25, 25-19) by limiting errors and emphasizing a diverse attack. The Trojans continued their success by toppling IU – South Bend (25-22, 14-25, 27-25, 25-17).
Young talent stepped up and propelled the team forward to the first two wins of the season. Sophomore Amanda Adams posted a career-high and led TU in kills against IUSB with 16 slams, marking her third-straight double-digit kill effort over the weekend. Another sophomore, Grace Isaacs, displayed her prowess at the net by leading the team with 13 kills in the early game.
Leadership from the senior setter, Haley Harrell, has been crucial for the Taylor team. Harrell collected 128 assists over the weekend, which provided outstanding consistency for her squad.
Taylor took control of the court against IUSB by sweeping up 100 digs as a team. Harrell and Samantha Korn combined for 44 digs to lead the Trojan defense. Freshman Jessica Dodane was the perfect complement for her upperclassmen teammates by adding 26 digs between the two games on Saturday.
Addy Bailey and Ryan Czerniak have also been bright spots for the Taylor roster. Czerniak, a freshman, brought an immediate impact by amassing double-digit kills in each match of the season. A key component of the offense, Addy Bailey, continues to display her experience by tallying 32 kills over the first three matches.
The Trojans will look to keep their momentum going as they face their first conference opponent at home on Wednesday, August 29th at 7:00pm against Grace.
