TU Men Suffer Stinging Loss After Second-Half Collapse
Â
GOSHEN, Ind. – Taylor watched an 18-point second-half lead slip away on Tuesday at Goshen, as the hosts outscored TU by a 38-15 margin over the final 10:46 to send the Trojans away with a 73-68 loss.
Taylor closed the first half on a 33-15 stretch and started the second on a 10-2 spurt to open a commanding lead that sat at 53-35 with 10:57 left in the contest.
Goshen stormed back by rattling off 13-straight points in a game-changing rally that was fueled by a string of sloppy TU turnovers.
Taylor rebounded to push the margin back to 10 with less than seven minutes to play, but GC ripped off another 8-0 streak to draw within two and later erased a four-point Trojans lead with seven-straight tallies to move in front to stay.
TU turned the ball over 10 times in the second half to open the door for the Goshen comeback. The Leafs capitalized by turning those miscues into 14 second-half points and finished the contest with 20 points off Taylor turnovers.
Taylor was also outscored by a wide gap at the free throw line, with just seven makes to Goshen’s 17.
Ryan Robinson led Taylor with 21 points, while Vincent Miranda netted 12 and Jason Hubbard grabbed a career-best 13 rebounds.
Taylor (11-18, 5-12 CL) will close its regular season at home on Saturday at 3:00 pm against Grace (14-15, 4-13 CL), before opening play as the eight-seed in the Crossroads League Tournament on Wednesday, February 20 at either No. 3 Spring Arbor or No. 5 Indiana Wesleyan.
