TU Men’s Soccer Suffers Defeat at SAU in Crossroads League Quarterfinals

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. – The eighth-seeded Taylor men’s soccer team battled top-seeded and 21st-ranked Spring Arbor on Wednesday night in the Crossroads League Tournament Quarterfinals, but came up short, as the Trojans fell, 3-1, at SAU.

Spring Arbor opened the scoring with a goal in the fourth minute to give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead, but TU’s Zoltan Suranyi equalized in the 17th minute on Jeremiah Rader’s assist to bring Taylor into a 1-1 tie.

The Cougars struck again later in the first half, taking a 2-1 lead with 23:17 to play in the opening stanza.

SAU held a 14-5 shot advantage in the first 45 minutes, but the Trojans tallied four shots on goal, compared to Spring Arbor’s three.

Taylor nearly converted a second equalizer in the 67th minute, as Gabriel Cavalheiro’s free kick from 40 yards out almost snuck past the Cougar keeper.

Spring Arbor tacked on a third goal in the 88th minute to make the 3-1 final tally.

The loss marks the end of the careers of seven Trojan seniors, Wes Shupe, Sam Hardy, Lewis Nisbet, Gonzalo Iglesias, Gabe Partain, Luke Gray, Gabe Saliba and Andrew Luetkehans.

TU ends its season with a record of 6-8-3, with a 2-6-1 league mark.
