TU Rolls to 10th-Straight Win in Sweep of Bethel

UPLAND, Ind.  – With wins of 3-2 and 9-1 over Bethel on Wednesday, Taylor completed the season sweep of Bethel and pushed its season-high win streak to 10 games.

The Purple and Gold held a 2-0 lead entering the seventh frame in game one, as Courtney Moriarty had struck out eight Pilots and allowed just three hits through six innings in the circle.

Bethel (5-35, 4-28 CL) did not go down without a fight, however, as the visitors used three-straight base hits to score the first run and an RBI groundout to tie the game at 2-2.

TU responded in the home-half, as Hannah Castor’s sacrifice bunt put Moriarty in scoring position, after Moriarty had singled with one out. Davis Carter then stepped to the plate with two outs and roped a single into left field to bring home Moriarty for the game-winning run.

Moriarty (6-2) earned her fifth-straight win on the rubber with a stellar performance for the Trojans, fanning a career-high nine batters and walking just one.

Taylor again jumped out in front in game one, this time courtesy of a three-run homer by Carter in the bottom of the first.

The Pilots scored their lone run of the contest with a solo shot in the top of the second, making it a 3-1 ballgame.

Lauren Kanai’s two-out single in the third stanza put the Trojans up by three once again, and then TU brought home five runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game by run-rule.

Olivia Hostetler led all Trojans with four hits on the day, while adding a pair of runs batted in. Kanai, Carter and Moriarty each collected three hits apiece to spur the Taylor offense.

Darby Shaw (7-4) scattered five hits and struck out three, while allowing just one earned run to pick up her seventh win in the circle for TU.

The Trojans (26-10, 20-8 CL) will host No. 2 Marian (39-3, 28-2 CL) for a doubleheader at Gudakunst Field on Friday at 4:00 pm in its next contest.
