TU Scores Twice in Second Period for Shutout Win
FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Senior Bailey Zehr scored two goals in the second half to lead RV Taylor to a 2-0 win over Indiana Tech on Friday night.
It took the Trojans (5-0-2) just over 60 minutes to find the back of the net in the non-conference clash and it was all they needed to claim the victory against the Warriors (1-5-0).
TU is now 5-1 against Indiana Tech in the series that dates back to 2008 and have won five in a row between the two. The Purple and Gold hold a 9-3 scoring advantage in the series.
Zehr tallied her second netter off a cross from Emma Walsh, coming 23 minutes after the game-winner. Walsh received her first-career point from the goal.
The Warriors got off seven shots during the 90 minutes and had two on-frame, compared to their counterparts which had 21 and 11 on-frame.
Teevans led the squad with five shot attempts and Hannah Waltz had three. Zehr was perfect from the pitch and only took two shots during the game.
Zehr now holds the team lead with eight goals after tonight’s performance, which is the captain’s second multi-goal game of the season and fourth of her career for TU. The senior has 23 points for the campaign, the most in the Crossroads League.
It took Indiana Tech’s offense 41 minutes for Megan Williams to garner her first save of the match. Williams picked up her first-career shutout in net for Taylor and played all 90 minutes for the second time this year. The sophomore had two saves and improved her season record to 3-0-2.
The Trojans return to Turner Stadium on Tuesday for a 4:00 p.m. match against Cornerstone (4-1-0).
