TU Suffers Pair of Losses at No. 2 Marian
INDIANAPOLIS – The Taylor softball team outhit the Knights, 15-13, in the doubleheader on Wednesday, but 2nd-ranked Marian handed the Trojans losses of 9-3 and 2-1 at Marian.
In the first contest, Marian (30-2, 21-1 CL) scored all nine of its runs in the first four innings, including a grand slam in the third, to lead 9-0 going into the fifth frame.
Taylor responded with all three of its runs in the fifth, as Hannah Castor produced a two-run single and Taylor Wilson’s sacrifice fly scored Castor.
MU held the Purple and Gold to a lone run in the nightcap, despite the Trojans collecting six hits.
The Knights scored both of its runs in the opening stanza to lead 2-0 for the majority of the game.
Taylor had a runner on third with two outs in both the fourth and fifth innings, and the Trojans converted a run in the fifth but could not push the runner home in the fourth.
Castor drove home Kara Tucker with an RBI single in the fifth for the lone TU run.
Taylor (16-10, 10-8 CL) will host Grace (10-24, 4-16 CL) tomorrow for two games at Gudakunst Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 4:00 pm.
