Indiana’s Amanda Cahill and Minnesota’s Carlie Wagner earn honor for second year in a row

ROSEMONT, Ill. — Two Big Ten Conference women’s basketball students have earned Academic All-America honors, as announced Monday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Indiana senior forward Amanda Cahill was a second-team selection, while Minnesota senior guard Carlie Wagner was a third-team honoree, with both students receiving the award for the second consecutive season.

Cahill, who earned third-team Academic All-America recognition last year, is the second Indiana women’s basketball student to be chosen as a two-time Academic All-American and the first since Terri Friedman in 1981 and 1982. She holds a 3.92 cumulative grade-point average as an elementary education major.

Wagner is a third-team Academic All-America choice for the second year in a row. She is also the second student in Minnesota women’s basketball history to be a two-time Academic All-American, joining April Calhoun, who was a two-time selection in 2005 and 2006. Wagner maintains a 3.59 GPA as she completes work on her undergraduate degree in business and marketing education.

Cahill and Wagner are two-time Academic All-Big Ten honorees (2016 and 2017, with the 2018 Academic All-Big Ten announcement still to come), with Cahill also earning Big Ten Distinguished Scholar status both years.

This marks the fifth consecutive season the Big Ten has featured a women’s basketball Academic All-America selection and the third time in four years the conference has had multiple Academic All-Americans in women’s basketball.
