STILLWATER, Okla.- A former standout and current star for the Southeastern University women’s soccer team earned championship gold. Former center back Heidi Ruth and incoming senior forward Uchenna Kanu helped guide Pensacola FC to the Women’s Professional Soccer League Championship, defeating Utah Royals FC 4-3 in extra time.

The title came for Pensacola in their third-straight trip to the championship match and is the club’s first title since 2012.

Additionally, Kanu was named the 2019 WPSL Championship Most Outstanding Player for her two-goal effort in the tournament.

Kanu was fresh off representing her home nation Nigeria at the FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, where she played in every match as Nigeria advanced to the Knockout Stage.

Ruth is set to head to Sweden to play professionally for IFK Kalmar who competes in the Elitettan, the second highest division of Swedish women’s soccer.
