UIndy, Drury Earn GLVC Baseball Weekly Awards

 

INDIANAPOLIS – University of Indianapolis senior third baseman Storm Joop and Drury University senior pitcher Austin Simms have been respectively named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Player and Pitcher of the Week in baseball, it was announced by the Conference office on Monday.

BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Storm Joop, Indianapolis
Sr., 3B, Champaign, Illinois

Team Results: W 4-1, L 0-7 at Lewis (3/23); W 8-7, W 14-2 at Lewis (3/25)

  • Hit .600 (9-for-15) with three doubles and five runs scored from the leadoff position to help UIndy to a 3-1 mark to open conference play
  • Notched at least two hits in all four league games
  • Registered 12 total bases and an .800 slugging percentage, which improved season mark to .536
  • Notched an on-base percentage of .647 to raise season total to .446
  • Opened Lewis series going 2-for-5 and 2-for-4 with a double and run scored on Friday
  • Shined on Sunday with 2-for-2 and 3-for-4 efforts with two doubles and four runs scored
  • Earns first career Player of the Week award
  • Last Indianapolis Player of the Week: Alex Ritchie (3/24/14)

Pitched a complete-game, nine-inning shutout, garnering 11 strikeouts while allowing five hits and two walks

Tied school record for most strikeouts in a game

  • Earns first career Pitcher of the Week award
