USF track & field athletes win coaches national award
University of Saint Francis track and field athletes have earned an NAIA All-Academic Award for excelling in the classroom as well as in competition.
Senior Caren Hernandez and sophomores Clista Hellwarth and Samantha Wissel have earned USF’s first U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Award for 2019. The honor is earned by posting a grade-point-average of at least 3.5 and competing at the national championship meet.
Hernandez (Auburn, IN) competed at the NAIA Indoor Championship running in the 1,000-meter run and with the USF 4X800 relay team along with Wissel (Lynn, IN). Hellwarth (Celina, OH) was Crossroads League javelin champion and finished 15th at the NAIA Outdoor Championship.
