Valpo Football Announces Team Awards for Week 5
The Valparaiso University football program has announced its team awards for Week 5 of the 2024 season after Saturday’s Pioneer Football League opener at Morehead State.
Redshirt senior offensive lineman Tyler Eberhart (Barberton, Ohio / Barberton) has been named the team’s Offensive Player of the Week, while redshirt junior defensive lineman Kevin Spelman (New Lenox, Ill. / Providence Catholic) earned the honors on defense and redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Alex Goworowski (Chicago, Ill. / Saint Patrick) did so on special teams.
The team also announced its Scout Team Players of the Week – redshirt freshman offensive lineman Ethan Stierheim (Buffalo, N.Y. / Williamsville North) on offense, freshman defensive lineman Jonathan Bauzon (Greenwood, Ind. / Center Grove) on defense and freshman kicker Luke Scoma (Bellevue, Wash. / Bellevue) on special teams.
Eberhart, a team captain, remained a key piece of Valpo’s improved offensive line this season. Spelman’s day was highlighted by a key sack on third-and-12 at the Morehead State 19, dropping the Eagles’ quarterback for a loss of nine and setting up Goworowski’s blocked punt through the end zone for a safety.
The Beacons will return home to Brown Field this week for a noon kickoff vs. Drake on Homecoming Saturday. For ticket information, visit tickets.valpoathletics.com.
