Vitola, May, Griffin, Sartin, Breedlove selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Tayler Vitola (Appoquinimink [West Middletown, Del.]), Abbie May (St. Bede [Peru, Ill.]), Caitlin Griffin (North Buncombe [Westerville, N.C.]), Chevelle Sartin (Arkansas City [Kan.]) and Raegan Breedlove (Central Valley [Shasta Lake, Calif.]) were selected MaxPreps/NFCA National High School Players of the Week for games played the week of March 26-April 1.

East Region
In a pair of victories for Appoquinimink, Vitola was 6-for-7 (.857) with six RBI and six runs scored. She knocked in a season-high four runs, going 4-for-5 at the plate in a win over Newark. The sophomore was 2-for-2 with two RBI and three stolen bases versus Padua Academy. Vitola scored three runs in each contest and drew three total walks for a .900 on-base percentage.

North Region
May contributed with her arm and her bat in a pair of wins last week. The junior hurler twirled a four-hit shutout against Erie-Prophetstown, recording 19 of the 21 outs on her own via the strikeout. She also tossed two innings of shutout ball with five strikeouts versus Putnam County. At the plate, May doubled and drove in four runs in the 15-5 win over the Panthers, while going 2-for-3 with a home run, double and RBI versus Erie-Prophetstown.

South Region
Griffin hit .727 (8-for-11) with four doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI and six runs scored. She slugged 1.636 and recorded a .769 on-base percentage. Griffin was a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles and seven RBI, leading the Black Hawks to a 12-5 victory over West Henderson. She homered, scored four runs and knocked in three against Asheville. Griffin was responsible for three of her squad’s four runs in a 4-3 victory over T.C. Roberson. She was 2-for-3 with a double, homer and three RBI in the contest.

South Central Region
Sartin, a senior, was 7-for-10 at the plate with four doubles, two long balls and 10 RBI. She scored six runs, slugged 1.700 and fielded all 11 chances at shortstop without a miscue. Sartin drove in five runs with three doubles and a homer in game one of a doubleheader versus South. She followed with five more RBI on a double and round tripper. Sartin scored three times in each contest.

West Region
Breedlove put forth two dominant performances in the circle for Central Valley. She twirled a five-inning no-hitter in game one of a doubleheader against Trinity. She recorded 14 of the 15 outs via the strikeout. The sophomore hurler put in one of her best outings of the year, limiting Enterprise to four hits and fanning a season-high 19 in a 1-0 victory. At the plate, Breedlove homered twice and drove in eight of Central Valley’s 13 runs. In game two versus the Wolves, she doubled and scored twice.
