Waddell Becomes Third Member of Highly-Regarded Class

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue men’s basketball head coach Matt Painter has announced that Brian Waddell has signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Boilermakers for the Class of 2021.

“We’re really excited to add Brian to our signing class,” Painter said. “He played at a great high school program and is someone that I have followed throughout his high school career. He’s just a winner. He can guard people, has good size, has good length, can rebound and really competes. He’s really worked on his shot and his efficiency is off the charts. Brian is just a good all-around basketball player who will help us win a lot of games here.”

Purdue’s class is ranked among the nation’s top-25 classes in all major recruiting services, boasting three in-state signees. Waddell joins Indiana’s Mr. Basketball and its runner up in Caleb Furst and Trey Kaufman-Renn as the newest members of the program.

  • Averaged 15.8 points and 6.4 rebounds as a senior.

  • Carmel was 26-2 in 2020-21 and defeated Lawrence North in the state title game. Waddell scored 20 points with 10 rebounds in the title game.
  • Father, Matt, was a teammate of Matt Painter at Purdue and helped the Boilermakers to NCAA Tournaments in 1993, 1994 and 1995, while winning Big Ten titles in 1994 and 1995. Scored 1,170 points and dished out 460 assists during his career.
