Wiley sets all-time, all-dates record in 1500 meters

HUNTINGTON, Ind. – Nothing is too surprising anymore when it comes to Addy Wiley. Earlier today the sophomore phenom, in her Diamond League debut, set an all-time, all-dates collegiate best in the 1500 meters at the Allianz Memorial Van Damme meet in Brussels, Belgium.

Wiley ran a 3:59.17 to take down Jenny Simpson’s 2009 record of 3:59.90. Her record-breaking performance came just days after she became the second-fastest collegian of all time in the 800 meters by clocking in at 1:57.64 at the Gala dei Castelli in Switzerland.

Wiley and Mary Slaney are the only two women in U.S. history to go sub- 1:58 and sub- 4:00 in the 800 meters and 1500 meters respectively. Most impressive is Wiley did so within a four-day span.

Wiley finished eighth in today’s 1500-meter race that featured seven of the 12 finalists from the World Championships in Budapest.

“I couldn’t be happier for Addy for her performances while in Europe,” said Coach Austin Roark. “Her 800-meter performance in Switzerland set up her record-breaking run in Brussels.

“I know how hard she’s worked and dedicated herself this summer, and she is now the fastest U.S. collegiate 1500m runner of all time.”

In her freshman collegiate campaign at HU, Wiley ran to seven NAIA National Championships and nine NAIA All-American honors. In addition to the five indoor NAIA titles and two outdoor NAIA titles in track, the Huntington native also finished runner-up at the NAIA Cross Country National Championships.
