LAKELAND, Fla.—Whatever Southeastern University women’s basketball coach Tim Hays is doing at halftime seems to be working really well.
The Fire outscored Warner 22-8 in the third quarter during Saturday afternoon’s 71-53 win over county-rival Warner to move to 4-0 on the year and 2-0 in Sun Conference play.
Through four games this season, SEU has outscored its opponents 98-43.
Southeastern held a 36-26 lead at halftime, thanks to a 10-2 run over the final 5:17 of the second quarter. During that run, the Royals committed a quarter of their 16 turnovers on the night.
Elsa Paulsson-Glantz knocked down a 3-pointer on SEU’s first possession of the second half, and was followed by a triple by Halee Printz on the next possession to quickly push the advantage to 16 (42-26).
Paulsson-Glantz led all scorers with 24 points, and added six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Printz was also in double figures with 10 points and seven assists.
The Fire again went on a run to close a quarter, outscoring the Royals 13-2 over the final 5:24 of the quarter. During the run, the Fire were 4-of-6 from the field and 5-of-6 at the free throw line and led 58-34 to start the fourth quarter.
Jaycee Coe added 11 points, connecting on a pair of 3-pointers, and added five rebounds and an assist.
As a team, the Fire finished 75% at the free throw line, making 18 of their 24 attempts, with Warner just 7-of-21 (33.3%).
The Fire return to action on Friday at the NAIA Division II Showcase against Taylor.
